A new online training course, Tuition Waiver 101, has been launched to help eligible employees navigate and use the Tuition Waiver Program. The self-paced course is designed to guide participants through the entire process, from establishing eligibility to submitting a waiver with confidence.

Tuition Waiver Program Details

The Tuition Waiver Program provides an opportunity for eligible UNC System faculty and staff to have tuition waived for courses taken at UNC System Institutions. NC State permits the waiver of tuition for up to three courses per academic year (fall, subsequent spring, and summer sessions). These courses can be for career development or personal interest, and enrollment must not interfere with an employee’s normal work obligations.

The number of waivers you can use per semester varies:

  • You can use up to three waivers in a fall or spring semester.
  • You can use only one waiver during the summer sessions.

Who Is Eligible for the Program?

The waiver is available to employees of the UNC System who work 75% time or greater and contribute to the retirement system.

NC State employees taking classes at NC State must maintain eligible employment status for the entire semester.

The Tuition Waiver 101 Course

This new training is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the program, including a hands-on look at the application process. A key feature of the course is Module 2, where participants will experience submitting a tuition waiver through a guided demonstration that simulates the MyPack Portal environment.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Determine their eligibility by identifying the specific requirements.
  • Give examples of what’s covered and what’s not covered by the waiver.
  • Submit a tuition waiver after a guided demonstration of the application process.

This new resource is intended to make the Tuition Waiver Program more accessible and easier to use for all eligible employees, providing the practical skills needed to take advantage of their educational benefits. Sign up via REPORTER today!
