Foundations Accounting and Investments (FAI) strives to provide exceptional customer service to its internal and external partners. As part of this goal, they provide a range of reporting tools and resources, such as the FAI, Financial Reports. These reports can provide data on deficit balances, unused balances, department ID list, general fund reports and many others.
Campus partners find these reports helpful with the ability to drill down on specific characteristics using various codes including by foundation, fund type, Department ID, class, etc. You can drill down on these reports to see individual transactions, or you can download and filter reports via excel.
Commonly Used Reports
- The Deficit Balance report lists all projects with deficit balances for a particular foundation or by Department ID (OUC) range. This report should be run regularly to ensure that all project expenditures are within the allotted budget.
- The unused balances in an endowment income project can be obtained by running a Fund Report for a foundation or the University Endowment Fund. The FAI Fund Type for endowment income projects is “F0.” The balances in these projects are the “unused spending” balances.
- The General Fund report lists transactions for the Foundation’s general fund budget, also known to the Foundation staff as their Foundation operating budget. These budgets are voted on by the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
To Keep In Mind
- Market value for endowments can only be found in Fundriver.
- Financial information included in the WolfPack Reporting System and the Foundation Campus Reports is book value, not market value.
- For general fund and restricted fund projects (including regular restricted funds as well as endowment income funds), the book value is appropriate, as it represents the amount of funds that can be spent. However, for endowment principal funds, users are typically interested in the market value, which is not accounted for in these systems, only in Fundriver.
