University partners often ask, “What is the value of my endowment and where can I look to see it?” Foundations Accounting and Investments (FAI) uses a reporting tool called Fundriver.
This tool provides information about endowments, including market values, gift agreements, spending budgets and other fund information. The endowment market values and investment activity are reported on a quarterly basis, while spending information is updated annually at the beginning of the fiscal year.
This is a useful tool, especially for campuses and colleges to analyze their endowment support and provide detailed information. By pulling a Campus Market Value Report from Fundriver, a user can identify an individual endowment’s quarterly market value, current programmatic spending budgets, beginning market value of that quarter and other information such as benefiting units. The Campus Market Value Report can be found under the Reports tab in Fundriver as a frequently used report. Select the most recent closing quarter dates for the most up-to-date data.
The reports can be downloaded in Excel format, making them extremely useful in analyzing endowment data. Once in Excel format, university partners can filter or insert a pivot table to access desired data. For example, if a college wanted to know the total endowment support for their college, they could insert a pivot table, select entity and ending market value in the rows and values section and then select the benefiting unit in the filters section; the benefiting unit would be their specific college.
This tool is a great way for university partners to obtain quarterly endowment information easily.
