The Office of Investments, led by Chris Ip, Chief Investment Officer, is a unit within Foundations Accounting & Investments (FAI). The Office of Investments is a team of investment professionals with diverse backgrounds who are responsible for the governance, manager selection and investing of the university’s and associated entities’ endowments, as well as their short- to intermediate-term cash funds. These responsibilities include identifying and recommending new investment managers and opportunities, evaluating performance of investment managers, monitoring portfolios and, from time to time, recommending additional allocations to or withdrawals from such managers.
The funds managed by the Office of Investments on behalf of NC State University and its associated entities include the NC State Investment Fund, The NC State Intermediate Term Fund, the Sustainable Responsible Impact Fund (SRI Fund), operating cash and planned giving portfolios.
As a research-extensive land-grant university, NC State University’s vision is to be an institution recognized around the globe for its innovative education and research. Since inception, the investments of NC State and its associated entities have supported funding toward this vision, with millions awarded in scholarships, fellowships and professorships. The investments are positioned to provide vital support to advance our participants’ strategic departmental initiatives, as well as attracting the most talented faculty and most promising students.
The Office of Investment’s primary objective is to invest endowed assets in a manner that preserves their purchasing power while generating an income stream that’s able to to support the university’s and associated entities’ spending needs for their operating budgets and various mission-driven initiatives.
