Welcome to FY 2026! The University Controller’s Office hosts Business Connections Meetings each fiscal year from September–April (no December meeting due to the holidays). During these meetings, we share key financial updates and feature guest presentations on topics requested by the audience. The first meeting of the year was held on 9/11. Below are some highlights of topics covered.
Office of Enterprise Applications Services (EAS)
Yessy Mendoza-Tate shared updates on upcoming Financial System enhancements. The system will be offline October 18–19 with a go-live date of October 20. These upgrades will improve security, add tools for obligations, allocations and expenditures, and will enhance HR features. For questions of support, contact [email protected].
Office of Strategic Brand Management
Chris Boyer introduced the new Guide for Trademark Use on University Promotional Items and the Trademark Use on University Promotional Items training. The session highlighted trademark licensing rules, regulations and simplified processes for ordering promotional items with the NC State mark.
Procurement and Business Services
Chanelle Corpening shared updates on procurement activities, including planning for the Annual Procurement Meeting, Card Services updates and the 14th Annual MarketPlace Expo, which will take place on November 19. She also reviewed term contracts, procurement thresholds, sourcing tips, surplus property sales and public auctions.
Foreign National Tax Compliance
Dwaine Cook discussed payments for foreign nationals, including residency, onboarding, permissible payments, tax withholding, and reporting. The Controller’s Office also released a new Payroll Guide for Foreign National Taxes to provide guidance for the setup and taxation of foreign nationals who are employees of the university.
Accounts Payables and Travel
Ruthie Fairbanks reviewed the new Payables Guide, integration of travel advances and third-party lodging into the Travel Center, and a new airfare article. Additional Travel Manual updates are planned for fall 2025. For questions, contact [email protected].
Research Compliance Office
Mary Millsaps presented new federal research security rules for international travel and high-risk destinations being integrated into the Travel Authorization process in the Travel Center. Research Security Training is recommended for individuals traveling abroad.
